A: LARC ran a successful day camp for 45 years for children with special needs. Camp LARC, as it was then known, was a partnership with other organizations, such as the Northwest YMCA Camp Torymca and Shookie. At that time camp focused specifically on children and teens with special needs. In 2011, LARC formed Camp MOE, an outdoor day camp for all children. It is one of the first camps in New England that provides an inclusive setting where all campers are welcome.
A: Camp MOE is located at 1145 Brandy Hill Road in Torrington.
A: Camp MOE is located at the Camp Maria Pratt site and provides the perfect setting for an outdoor camp program. It is set on 165 acres of beautiful woods and fields with a private pond, miles of marked trails and lots of wildlife. The camp has a large lodge for indoor activities (especially on rainy days), three pavilions, an archery range, hard-court area, infirmary, office, arts and crafts building, gaga pit and a full waterfront.
A: They are the best! Our campers are children that come from all walks of life, each having their own unique strengths. They have the desire to learn, make friends and have fun. Approximately one-third of our campers are children with special needs: intellectually disabled, physical disabilities, autism spectrum, mental health issues, ADHD, etc. ALL of our campers want to be provided with an amazing Camp MOE experience that they will never forget.
A: No; however, special circumstances are approved by the director if notified prior to the start of camp and stated in the employment letter.
A: If you are interested in joining the Camp MOE team please carefully fill in and submit the online staff application form. It is extremely important that the entire application is filled out including references. Email addresses are needed for your references. You will need to provide three references. One will need to be from a prior employer, and one may be a personal reference (not a family member). If we are interested in you, we will move your application along and contact you to set up an interview. Interviews will be in person when feasible; phone and Skype® arrangements can be made. A: We start hiring staff in December and continue the process through June.
